23.7 pc people in J&K owned cars, UT ranked 3rd in country
A whopping 23 percent population of Jammu and Kashmir, (including Ladakh) has been using personal cars, which ranked third among the states and union territories.
The statistics were released by the union government under National Family Health Survey-5 (2019-2021). As per the date, whooping 23. 7 percent people in J&K have owned cars followed by Goa where 45.2 percent of the population have cars and Kerala where 24.2 percent people owned cars.
Eventually, Jammu and Kashmir ranked one in entire North India where per household has more cars.
In North India undivided J&K (Including Ladakh) ranked one with 23.7 percent household owned cars followed by Himachal Pradesh were percentage was 22.1, Punjab at 21.9 %, Delhi at 19.4% and Haryana at 15.3 percent,
Moreover, as per another survey the vehicle numbers in J&K have doubled in seven years, up from 12 lakh in 2015 to 24 lakh in 2022.
They said that the commercial and private vehicle numbers had increased to 24 lakh in 2022 from 12 lakh in 2014-15. However, the authorities said that the fatalities were almost stagnant due to the strict implementation rules.
Meanwhile, in the south, Kerala with 24.4% present boasts of being the state with an overly high percentage of the population with cars.
The other states are miles away from Kerala, Karnataka have 9.1 percent people who onmed cars, followed by Tamil Nadu at 6.5 %, Telangana at 5.2 percent and Andhra Pradesh at 2.8 percent.
The mid and western parts of the country are quite decent in terms of the households owning cars. However, tourism hub Goa topped the position of people owning a car in the entire country with its 45.2 percent population owning cars followed by Gujarat with 10.9 percent, Rajasthan with 8.2 percent, Madhya Pradesh with 5.3 percent and Chhattisgarh with 4.3 percent.
The north-eastern states also have some of the highest percentages of people owning cars. This could largely be due to the topography and living conditions there. Being hilly areas and remote places, it is almost a necessity to own personal vehicles to get around.
In 21.3 percent people owned cars, followed by Sikkim with 20.9 people, Arunachal Pradesh with 19.3 percent people, Manipur with 17 percent and Mizoram with 15.5 percent.
It must be noted here that the states of Bihar, Odisha and West Bengal have some of the lowest percentages of households owning a car.
In addition to the state-wise percentage of people who own cars, the average population in India that owns a car has risen up to 7.5% compared to a mere 6% back in 2018.
