J&K unveils list of holidays for 2023
The government on Friday listed a number of holidays for the calendar year 2023 in Jammu and Kashmir.
As per the notification announced by the General Administration Department a total of 27 holidays are to be celebrated across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The holidays listed in the order shall be observed in the government offices and educational institutes of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir during the calendar year 2023, reads the order.
Holidays include Republic Day, Mahashivratri, Shab-I-Miraj, Nauroz, 1st Navratra, Ramanavami, Baisakhi, Birthday of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Shab-l- Qadr, Jumat-ul-Vida, Eid-ul-Fitr, Buddha Purnima, Eid-ul-Azha, Guru Har Gobind Ji’s Birthday, Ashoora, Independence Day, Janamashtami, Birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh, Eid-i-Milad-ul-Nabi, Friday Following Eid-i-MiIad-ul-Nabi, Mahatma Gandhi’s Birthday, Mahanavami, Dussehra, Recession Day, Diwali, Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Birthday and Christmas Day.
As per the notification, provisional holidays for Kashmir province include Friday following Shab-i-Miraj, Mela Khir Bhawani, Urs Shah-i-Hamdan Sahib, Urs-e-Hazrat Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani. The number of provisional holidays in Jammu province includes Lohri, Shri Guru Ravi Das’s Birthday and Holi.
As per the notification issued by the government, a number of the local holiday includes Mela Bahu Fort (Jammu district only), Mahavir Jayanti (Jammu district only), Good Friday (Jammu district only), Urs Shah Farid-ud-Din Sahib (Kishtwar District only), Sarthal Devi Ji Yatra (Kishtwar district only), Kailash Yatra (Tehsil Bhaderwah and Tehsil Bhalla only), Mela Pat (tehsil Bhadenvah and Tehsil Bhalla only) and Urs Shah Asrar-ud-Din Sahib (Kishtwar Doda &Ramban districts).
The number of restricted holidays includes Parshuram Jayanti (Jammu province), Kabir Jayanti (Jammu province), Martyr’s Day of Guru Arjun Dev Ji and Raksha Bandhan. All the Muslim holidays are subject to the appearance of the moon, the notification reads.
