Two buried under avalanche in Kargil
A woman and a teen-aged girl were on Sunday killed after they came under an avalanche in Kargil district of Ladakh.
According to the officials, a woman Bilquis Fatima (25) and Kulsum Bi (14) were walking on the road near their Tangole village on Kargil-Zanskar highway when they were hit by the avalanche around 2.30 pm.
He said a rescue operation was immediately launched but they could not be saved.
Later, their bodies were retrieved by the rescuers and handed over to their families for last rites after the completion of legal formalities.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor R K Mathur announced an ex-gratia of 5 lakhs each to the next of kin of the deceased.
“My deepest condolences to the families of Bilquis Fatima and Kulsoom Bee who lost their lives in an unfortunate avalanche incident in Tangole village of Kargil,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
Member of Parliament, Ladakh, JTN expressed his condolence to the families of the victims and prayed for the eternal peace of the deceased.
“I am saddened by receiving unfortunate lost of two lives in the avalanche in Tangole Kargil. My prayers for the departed souls and heartfelt condolences with their family members, relatives and friends. May God give peace to the departed souls,” he wrote on facebook.
He also appreciated to the Ladakh Police Personnels and volunteers of Baseej-e-Baqiyatullah (ASZ) for their efforts in rescue operations.
Chief Executive Councilor LAHDC-Kargil Feroz Khan has expressed his condolence to the families of the victims and prayed for the eternal peace of the deceased.
“Prayers for the two young lives lost in today’s avalanche at Tangole. Both the bodies have been recovered. The efforts of Ladakh Police personnel and volunteers of Baseej-e-Baqiyatullah (ASZ) are highly commendable” Khan tweeted.
He hailed the efforts of Ladakh Police personnel and volunteers of Baseej-e-Baqiyatullah (ASZ) and said that the rescue operation of finding the bodies of both girls within hours of the Avalanche is highly commendable.
