Residents unable to provide fingerprints will facilitate exceptions in Aadhaar enrolment: Govt in RS

The government today denied that a large number of differently-abled citizens have been left out of the Aadhaar enrollment for not being able to provide biometric information like fingerprints.

In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, the Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar said the residents who are unable to provide fingerprints for Aadhaar enrollment,  iris scans can be collected.

He said the residents who are unable to provide any biometric information contemplated by the regulations, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will facilitate exceptions in the enrollment.

He said every data collected during enrollment has to pass through a robust, well-established data quality checking procedure.

The Minister said UIDAI will continuously monitor the enrollment systems and processes to improve the accuracy of the Aadhaar database.
