Sensex, Nifty witness gains of around one percent

The Sensex and the Nifty on Tuesday witnessed gains of around one percent. Index of top 30 companies at Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex, ended above the 61,000 mark.

The index of top 50 companies at National Stock Exchange, closed above the 17,900 level. Both stocks rose amid positive global cues.

The Sensex climbed 600 points, or 0.99 percent, to finish at 61,032. The Nifty-50 also surged 159 points, or 0.89 percent, to settle at 17,930.
