Pangong frozen lake marathon makes it to Guinness Book of World Record

India’s first frozen lake half-marathon at an altitude of roughly 13,862 feet, hosted by Ladakh administration at Pangong Tso, was on Monday officially registered in the Guinness Book of World Records.

The event was recorded as “Highest Altitude Frozen Lake half marathon” in Guinness World Records.

Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh and Adventure Sports Foundation (ASF) Ladakh held the world record for conducting the highest altitude frozen lake half-marathon at Pangong Lake.

A first of its kind in Ladakh, the Pangong frozen lake half-marathon saw overwhelming participation from more than 70 athletes across the world.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) Leh Tashi Gyalson said, “Congratulations, we have made it to the world record. Indeed a successful event inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vibrant villages Programme for border regions.”
