US winter storm pounds Northern Plains and Upper Midwest

US winter storm has pounded the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest. More than 9 lakh people lost power in several parts of the United States.

More than 2,000 flights were cancelled and another 15,000 delayed due to the bad weather.

According to the National Weather Service, there could be another 18 inches of snowfall, winds of up to 50 miles per hour and wind chills as low as minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit all day long across a significant portion of the northern United States, from Washington state to New England.
