Huge voter turnout recorded in state assembly elections in Nagaland and Meghalaya; 85 % polling recorded in Nagaland and Meghalaya registers 75% polling

Nagaland, over 85 per cent polling has been reported till last report came in. Barring few incidents the polling remained by and large peaceful. All the EVMs are being kept in strong rooms amidst tight security.

Counting of votes will be held on 2nd of March. CEO V Shashank Shekhar said that three-tier security measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of the EVMs. A total of 183 candidates are in the fray in Nagaland including four women candidates.

In Meghalaya, about 75 per cent of over 21 lakh 40 thousand voters cast their vote in yesterday’s polling. The poll percentage is likely to go further up as polling went on till late in the evening yesterday at some districts.

Polling held for 59 Assembly constituencies in the state has been held yesterday while the election to Sohiong constituency has been adjourned due to the death of a candidate.  Poll parties have returned and EVMs have been kept in Strong rooms at all district headquarters.

The public mandate regarding the next Meghalaya Assembly has been sealed in the EVMs and kept in strong rooms. Except from a few far-reaching polling stations, all poll parties have come back and the EVMs have been kept under security.

The authorities have made Three-tier security arrangements at the strong rooms at all district headquarters. They informed that 22 companies of armed security forces have been deployed for the same.

The verdict on the political future of the total 369 candidates including 36 women from 4 national parties and 8 more state and other parties has been sealed in the EVMs. Meanwhile, exit polls held by various media organizations predicted a fractured mandate.
