Work underway to rejuvenate Hokersar Wetland in Srinagar outskirt
Srinagar, Mar 16, KNT: The de-silting process has been going on at a break-neck at Hokersar Wetland in Srinagar outskirts which is home to migratory birds and a flood basin.
An official from Wildlife Protection Department told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that men and machinery have been pressed into service to rejuvenate Hokersar Wetland.
“De-silting is underway to ensure a water level of a minimum of one meter throughout the year. Rejuvenation of this wetland has become inevitable keeping its immense environmental values in view,” he said.
The official added that it is their prime responsibility to save this precious wetland for posterity.
“It can become a major tourist attraction, once the work is completed. This winter, we expect a record number of arrivals of migratory birds here,” he said. [KNT]
