Sri Lanka’s National Election Commission defers Local Government polls
Sri Lanka’s National Election Commission has announced that postal voting for the Local Government polls will not be held as scheduled earlier. Issuing a statement, the Commission added that it will not be able to conduct the Local Government polls as announced that were scheduled for 25th April 2023.

Postal voting was earlier scheduled to be held from 28th March till 1st of April. The Commission further stated that a new date for the election will be decided in the near future.
Local Government elections which were scheduled to be held last year were deferred by an year due to the economic crisis in the island.
