Renowned playwright Rakesh Roshan Bhat’s Debut Book Released at Jammu Film Festival by Theatre Veterans and Bollywood Celebrities
Renowned playwright Rakesh Roshan Bhat added another feather to his cap with the release of his first book of two Kashmiri plays – “Chopayer yee gash” and “Gaad bateh” during the 3rd edition of the Jammu film festival. The release was organized by Vomedh, a cultural organization based in Jammu, on the 9th of April.
Rakesh Roshan Bhat is a name synonymous with theatre in the region. With 8 full-length plays to his credit since 2008, Bhat has become a household name in the theatre community. His debut Kashmiri play “Chopayer Yee Gash” garnered immense popularity for its portrayal of the pain of exodus across generations of Kashmiri Pandits. Bhat has also written 3 Kashmiri and 5 Hindi plays along with several short plays.
Bhat’s comedy play “Gaad Bateh” in Kashmiri also received a tremendous response from audiences. To celebrate the publication of his first book, which includes two of his plays “Chopayer Yee Gash” and “Gaad Bateh”, veteran theatre director M.K. Raina and writer M.L. Shad joined Bhat in a release event. Bollywood actor Rahul Roy and director Nitin Gupta also graced the event with their presence.
The book release was organized by Vomedh as a side event during the 3rd edition of the Jammu Film Festival on 9th April. Bharti Kaul, the Vice President of Vomedh, expressed her admiration for Bhat’s contribution to theatre in the region.
Speaking about Bhat’s writing, M.K. Raina said, “Rakesh has a unique voice and his plays have a deep resonance with the people of Jammu and Kashmir. His writing is a reflection of the society we live in, and it’s important that we support and encourage such talented individuals.”
Actor Rahul Roy added, “I am honored to be a part of this event and to see Rakesh’s work being recognized. It is important to preserve culture, and Rakesh is doing a great job with his plays.”
Commenting on the occasion, Rakesh Roshan Bhat said, “I am humbled by the support and encouragement I have received from the theatre community in Jammu, Kashmir and beyond. It’s my hope that my plays will continue to entertain and inspire audiences for years to come.”
It is pertinent to mention that Rakesh Roshan Bhat alongwith his brother Rohit are doing immense work for theatre and culture in the UT of J&K. Besides theatre, they are involved in short film making and organizing 2 major international film festivals; the Jammu Film Festival in Jammu and TIFSS ( The international film festival of Srinagar) in Srinagar.
The release of Bhat’s book was a significant event during the Jammu film festival and highlights the growing recognition of regional language plays and literature.
