President, Vice President greet people of Sikkim on their Statehood day
President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar today greeted the people of Sikkim on their Statehood day. In a tweet, the president said that Sikkim presents a blend of modernity and unique traditions. She said the state has pioneered organic farming, enriched biodiversity and created a model for sustainable development. President said, she was touched by the warmth of people during her visit of the state last year.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar said that Sikkim is home to beautiful mountains and rich biodiversity and it is a land of unparalleled natural beauty. He said that the state’s commitment to sustainable development, organic farming and cleanliness is truly inspirational.
Sikkim State Day is celebrated to commemorate the formation of Sikkim, as the 22nd state of India Union, in 1975. The state of Sikkim was formed by the 36th Amendment of the Constitution of India in 1975.
