Union Minister releases “1967 Parmeshwari Movement of Kashmir” authored by Kashmiri Pandit

Union Railway, Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu launched Ashish Kaul’s book ‘1967 Parmeshwari Movement of Kashmir in New Delhi’.

  This book is deep down into the greatest agitation of Independent India that was led by Kashmiri Pandits in 1967. Triggered by the disappearance of a 16-year-old girl, who left home one morning never to return.

   Parmeshwari agitation created a sensation across the country and shook the corridors of the Parliament. This agitation brought Kashmir to a grinding halt and during the movement scores of Pandits were detained.

  ‘This is not just a story but the turning point in time that saw the former Home Minister of India visiting Kashmir to sabotage the agitation. False promises were made to return the girl and also to end the persecution of minorities in Kashmir, however, none of the promises were kept. Parmeshwari was not sent home and eventually, this cemented the separatist movement in Kashmir” says author Ashish Kaul as the introduction of his new book with this one line.

  The foreword of this book has been written by Member Secretary of Indira Gandhi Centre for The Arts (IGNCA) Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi and the cover page has been created by renowned painter and artist Narendra Pal Singh.

  Dr. Joshi believes that ” the arrival of this book is timely as Kashmiri Pandits are making their way back to the valley.
