‘Janmashtami’ celebrated with religious fervor in Srinagar
Srinagar, Sep 7, KNT: The festival of Janmashtami was celebrated in the Kashmir capital Srinagar with religious fervor on Thursday.
Scores of Kashmiri Pandits took out a Janmashtami procession to celebrate the birthday of Lord Krishna. The procession started from the Tanki Pora in old Srinagar and passed through Jehangir Chowk and Hari Singh Singh High Street and culminated at Lal Chowk where devotees danced on the tunes of bhajans.
A Kashmiri Pandit who was part of the procession told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the procession was organized by Astaan Mandir Committee Tankipora.
The devotees, including men, women and children, danced alongside the chariot and distributed sweets among people.
Earlier, prayers were held at Baba Dharam Das Mandir at Barbarshah Srinagar in which a number of devotees participated.
The devotees thanked the government for facilitating the procession. They also expressed their gratitude to Muslim brethren for providing them all support to organize the procession.
This religious procession is part of age-old communal harmony between Kashmiri Pandits, Hindus, and Kashmiri Muslims. Earlier processions were carried out from Rainawari and Habakadal and today it started from Tankipora Srinagar,” Satish Mahaldar, a Pandit leader said. [KNT]
