External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar has said, India has age-old ties with Vietnam and both nations have a profound historical connection rooted in the legacy of Buddhism. Addressing the gathering after unveiling the bust of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore at the International Friendship Park in Vietnam’s Bac Ninh province, Dr. Jaishankar said, this will enhance the international reputation of Bac Ninh province and further its strong ties with India. He expressed happiness that Gurudev’s works are widely known and appreciated throughout Vietnam and even included in Vietnamese textbooks. He extended his gratitude to the leaders of Bac Ninh province for extending their support for installing this bust.
The External Affairs Minister reached Hanoi yesterday on a six-day visit to Vietnam and Singapore. Dr. Jaishankar is on an official visit to Vietnam till the 18th of October. Immediately after his arrival, the Minister visited the historical Tran Quoc Pagoda.
Dr. Jaishankar will co-chair the 18th India-Vietnam Joint Commission Meeting on Economic, Trade, Scientific, and Technological Cooperation with his Vietnamese counterpart Bui Thanh Son today.
In the second leg of his visit, the External Affairs Minister will travel to Singapore. He will meet his Singaporean counterpart and the top leadership of the country. He will also chair the regional conference of Indian heads of missions.
