‘J&K likely to get statehood next year after winters’

Srinagar, Oct 24 (ANB): Jammu and Kashmir is likely to get statehood next year most likely after winters, reliable sources told ANB.
Top sources in the union government said the BJP-led NDA government is likely to initiate the process for restoration of statehood to J&K soon, but the execution may take place after the winter’s next year, reliable sources said.
The development came after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah held a 30-minute meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday evening in New Delhi. According to the Associated News Bureau (ANB), Amit Shah has assured full support to the elected government and discussed the restoration of statehood.
Sources confirmed that the J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah discussed various key infrastructure issues and the power supply in J&K especially in the winter season.
It may be noted that the resolution for restoring statehood was passed by the Jammu and Kashmir cabinet on October 19 and subsequently cleared by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. (ANB)
