Forest fire in Daksum Range, Efforts on to extinguish it

KNT: Amid a dry spell, fire engulfed a vast portion of forest area in Daksum Range of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Eyewitnesses told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that fire has engulfed compartment 16 at Nematpora Larnoo forest area falling under the jurisdiction of Daksum Range. They said forest employees assisted by locals have managed to put out the fire to a great extent, however, the fire keeps on spreading due to dry grass.
They said a large number of trees have got damaged due to the fire. “Smoke is still emanating at different places though we have been trying very hard to control the fire,” said a forest official.
He said the fire began on Sunday late evening and has caused damage to a vast chunk of forest area. “Our teams are on job and locals are assisting them. Hopefully, we will control the fire,” he said.[KNT]
