Tribal Students Protest Against Jammu University Over Alleged Recruitment Rule Violations

Dozens of students from the tribal community Monday staged a protest outside the Jammu University Vice Chancellor’s office, accusing the institution of violating reservation rules.
The protest was organized by the Gujjar-Bakerwal Students Alliance (GBSA).
The controversy surrounds a job advertisement issued in 2022 for Assistant Professor positions in Political Science, where a candidate from Ladakh was recruited, allegedly bypassing recruitment norms and reservation rules.
Protesting students claimed that this appointment was unfair to tribal and backward-class aspirants, as non-domiciles cannot be appointed in J&K institutions.
The protesting students sought intervention from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to revoke the recruitment order and take action against those responsible.
The students alleged they face widespread discrimination within the university and other institutions, with authorities unresponsive to their grievances. [KNT]
