CONSTRUCTION OF BAILEY BRIDGES IN SHYOK – NUBRA VALLEY

Leh, Two Bailey Bridges have been inaugurated over Shyok River near Shatse Taknak in Diskit Sub Division, Leh connecting Shyok and Nubra Valleys. These bridges were jointly inaugurated on 22 Jan 2025 by Brigadier VS Salaria SC, SM, Commander of Siachen Brigade and Mr Tsering Angchuk, Deputy Chairman LAHDC, Leh.
According to the Associated News Bureau, these two Bailey Bridges of length 50 ft and 100 ft have been constructed by Fire and Fury Corps Engineers over Shyok River. Various dignitaries including Military dignitaries, Mukul Beniwal IAS, SDM Nubra and community members of Charasa, Burma, Kuri and Murgi villages attended the inauguration. These bridges reduce the travel distance by approximately 40 kms and travel time by approximately two hours from the farthest villages in Nubra and Shyok Valleys.
Inauguration of the bridges meets the requirement of the community members, greatly improving the accessibility to essential services during harsh winter season. Charasa, Burma, Kuri and Murgi villages of Siachen Region are greatly benefitted from the initiative. (ANB)
