J&K Govt Reviewing Proposal for 12 Free LPG Cylinders Annually

Srinagar, KNT: The Jammu and Kashmir government is actively reviewing a proposal to provide 12 free LPG cylinders per year to residents, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Satish Sharma informed the Assembly on Monday.

Responding to a query from People’s Conference MLA Sajad Gani Lone, Sharma stated that the matter is under examination and efforts are being made to fulfill commitments. Lone had sought clarity on whether the government plans to implement the scheme and, if so, when it would take effect.

The proposal, originally promised in the National Conference’s 2014 election manifesto, aims to benefit the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) of J&K. While no official timeline has been set, Sharma had previously hinted in November last year that an announcement on free LPG cylinders and increased ration allocations was forthcoming.

Officials suggest that the government is currently finalizing modalities, and a decision may be announced soon. [KNT]
