Eight Injured, Over 50 Sheep Feared Dead in Highway Collision Inside Chenani-Nashri Tunnel
Ramban, KNT: At least eight members of a nomadic family were injured and dozens of their livestock perished in a tragic road accident inside the Chenani-Nashri tunnel along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on Friday, officials said.
The mishap occurred when a truck (JK21-3479), carrying the nomadic family and their livestock from Jammu towards Ramban, rammed into another vehicle (JK21A-4397) from behind within the tunnel.
Officials confirmed that eight nomadic passengers sustained injuries and were immediately evacuated to various hospitals in Jammu, Udhampur, and Chenani for treatment.
While authorities stated that around 20 sheep and goats were killed on the spot, a member of the affected family claimed the actual number exceeded 50.
The Police from Batote have taken cognizance of the incident and launched a formal investigation into the cause of the crash. [KNT]
