Alleged Bovine Smuggler Booked Under PSA in Kathua; Two Drug Peddlers Held in Udhampur

Jammu,  KNT: Authorities in Kathua district have invoked the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) against a repeat offender involved in bovine smuggling, in a bid to clamp down on his persistent illegal activities.

Identified as Abdul Gani, the accused was detained from the Maggar Khad area of Lakhanpur and later shifted to Central Jail Kot Bhalwal in Jammu. According to police, Gani had been repeatedly involved in unlawful transportation of cattle and had managed to evade long-term legal consequences despite facing 10 FIRs filed at three different police stations under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act since 2008.

“A dossier was prepared detailing his consistent involvement in illegal bovine smuggling. The Kathua District Magistrate subsequently issued a detention order under PSA to ensure his criminal activities are curtailed,” a police spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, in a separate operation in Udhampur district, two individuals were arrested with narcotics in Chak Magiote area of Rehambal. Police identified the accused as Sham of Kotli Pain and Simraan Khan of Jakhani. Around 5.7 grams of heroin was recovered from their possession.

Both have been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police revealed that Sham was already wanted in multiple cases involving drug trafficking and theft. [KNT]
