IMD issues red alert for heatwave in North India

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Konkan, Goa, and Maharashtra over the next three days. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, reaching speeds of up to 60 to 70 kilometres per hour, are also expected at isolated places in these states. IMD further said that moderate to heavy rainfall is likely to continue in the northeastern states for the next two to three days.

 

 

 

Meanwhile, heatwave conditions are very likely to persist in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh. IMD also issued a Red Alert for Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, and an Orange Alert for Delhi due to the extreme heat conditions. IMD has also predicted warm night conditions at isolated places in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan over the next 24 hours.
