PM Narendra Modi holds one-on-one meeting with Cypriot Prez Nikos Christodoulides
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia. The Prime Minister is holding a one-on-one meeting with President Nikos Christodoulides. The two leaders will then engage in delegation-level talks to review bilateral relations and explore new avenues of cooperation, particularly in trade, investment, infrastructure, and innovation.
Regional and global issues, including India-European Union relations and the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, are also expected to feature prominently in the discussions. Later in the day, the Prime Minister and the President will visit the Nicosia Town Hall. From there, they will undertake a symbolic joint visit to the United Nations (UN) ceasefire line – a gesture underscoring India’s long-standing contribution to global peacekeeping efforts.
The Prime Minister’s visit will conclude with an official lunch hosted in his honour at the Presidential Palace, before his departure to Canada for the G7 Summit. Yesterday , Prime Minister Modi and President Nikos Christodoulides held a high‑level Business Roundtable in Lemesos with top Indian and Cypriot entrepreneurs. In his address, the Prime Minister emphasized that starting the visit with business signals the centrality of economic ties.
He spoke about India’s reforms in last decade -from GST to digital innovation-and urged Cypriot investors to explore opportunities in sectors like shipping, AI, semiconductors, fintech, and civil aviation. Significant business outcomes emerged from the business roundtable meeting ,Cyprus is set to integrate with India’s UPI payment platform; the NSE GIFT City exchange has signed an MoU with the Cyprus Stock Exchange; and BAO Capital Partners, a Cyprus‑based fund, pledged over $100 million for India-focused investments.
