Drain Completed 9 Months Ago, But Road Left in Shambles
Srinagar, , KNT: Despite the completion of a drainage project nine months ago, Lane 6 of Acha Bagh, Mala Bagh near Masjid Ibrahim in Srinagar continues to suffer due to the non-repair of the road, leaving residents frustrated and helpless.
The drain construction, part of a long-pending civic infrastructure upgrade, was reportedly completed in September 2024, but since then, the road surface has been left dug up and unattended. Residents say they are forced to navigate through uneven, muddy, and often waterlogged terrain on a daily basis.
“This is not just an inconvenience anymore, it’s a hazard,” said a local resident. “Children, the elderly, and even ambulances struggle to pass through this neglected lane. We have made repeated appeals to the authorities, but there has been no response so far.”
The damaged road surface is not only affecting pedestrians but also making it nearly impossible for vehicles to pass without damage, especially during rains when the stretch becomes slippery and water-filled.
People in the locality are questioning the lack of coordination between departments, pointing out how development works are often left incomplete or poorly followed up in urban Srinagar. “Why complete a drain if you’re going to leave the road worse than before?” another resident asked.
The situation near Masjid Ibrahim, a key landmark in the area, has also become a source of embarrassment for the people, especially during congregational prayers when footfall increases.
Locals have appealed to authorities to immediately intervene and complete the blacktopping and repair work without any further delay. [KNT]
