ACB Arrests Geology & Mining Department Official for Accepting Bribe
Srinagar, ANB ; The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Srinagar has arrested Basharat Habib, a Mineral Supervisor in the Department of Geology & Mining, for demanding and accepting a bribe of 15,000.
The action was initiated following a written complaint filed by Meraj-Ud-Din Cheeta of Pandrethan, Srinagar, alleging that the accused demanded a bribe in exchange for allowing the lifting of minor minerals (sand). According to news service, associated News service, ANB, Upon receiving the complaint, a discreet verification by the ACB confirmed the allegations. Subsequently, FIR No. 11/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended), was registered, and a formal investigation was launched.
A trap was laid by the ACB team, during which the accused was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount. He was immediately taken into custody, and further investigation is underway. Notably, this incident comes just two days after another official from the same department was arrested in the Safapora area for accepting a ₹10,000 bribe.
The ACB reiterated its commitment to rooting out corruption from public institutions and urged citizens to report such incidents without fear, assuring them of full support and confidentiality. ANB
