Fire Damages Four Shops in Kangan’s Main Market

Kangan, KNT: In an early morning blaze on Wednesday, four shops were gutted near the Sind Hill Hotel adjacent to the Sumo Stand in Kangan’s bustling main market, resulting in heavy financial losses for local traders. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.

Eyewitnesses told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the fire broke out suddenly and spread rapidly, consuming the contents of the shops within minutes. The blaze, which erupted before dawn, sent thick plumes of smoke into the sky as shopkeepers and locals rushed to the scene in distress.

Station House Officer (SHO) Kangan, along with personnel from the local police, Fire and Emergency Services, CRPF, and local youth, swung into action promptly. Their swift and coordinated response prevented the fire from spreading further into the market, limiting the damage to four establishments.

Despite the containment, goods worth lakhs of rupees were reduced to ashes, dealing a severe blow to the affected shopkeepers.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the fire, though an electrical short circuit is suspected. A formal investigation has been started in this regard. [KNT]
