Tourists Advised to Avoid Tent Stays in Gurez Amid Surge in Visitors
Bandipora, KNT: As Gurez Valley witnesses a sharp rise in tourist footfall this summer, authorities on Friday issued a fresh advisory urging all local tourists to make advance bookings in hotels or registered homestays, citing that tent accommodation is currently prohibited in the region.
Officials said the move is aimed at ensuring the safety, security, and comfort of visitors. “Tourists must plan their trips responsibly by booking lodging before arrival. Staying in tents is not permitted under current guidelines,” an official from the local administration told Kashmir News Trust.
Gurez, known for its pristine beauty, meadows, and tranquil surroundings, has become a major attraction for both adventure seekers and nature lovers. However, with growing popularity comes the need for better regulation, especially in remote areas with limited infrastructure.
Authorities emphasized that tourists who arrive without reservations may face serious inconvenience due to the ban on unregulated tent stays and the high demand for accommodation.
The advisory also appealed to visitors to follow all safety norms and respect local rules to maintain peace and environmental balance in the picturesque valley.
Officials further said that the decision to disallow tent stays has been taken keeping in view concerns over unauthorized camping, waste management, and the fragility of the local ecosystem.
