Speaker inspects Legislature Hostel Srinagar, reviews upgradation works

Srinagar,  KNT : Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, on Tuesday conducted a surprise inspection of the Legislature Hostel in Srinagar to assess ongoing development and upgradation works aimed at improving facilities for legislators.

Accompanied by Secretary Legislative Assembly Manoj Kumar Pandita, executive engineers from various departments, senior officers of the Assembly Secretariat, and other officials, the Speaker toured several sections of the hostel’s New Block to review the pace and quality of civil works, infrastructure improvements, and amenities.

Rather directed executing agencies to maintain high standards of workmanship, utilise public resources efficiently, and adhere strictly to stipulated timelines. He also instructed immediate renovation of rooms damaged in a recent fire and took strong note of delays in reconstructing the compound wall damaged during the 2014 floods.

Later chairing a meeting to review the hostel’s functioning, the Speaker called on the management to ensure regular maintenance, modern amenities, and proper upkeep to meet the contemporary needs of legislators. “Legislators are the face of democracy and deserve facilities befitting their role,” he said, adding that improved hostel operations would uphold the dignity of the institution.

The Speaker also discussed employee-related issues, directing timely Departmental Promotion Committee meetings for eligible staff, and stressed the importance of discipline and adherence to a proper uniform code for hostel employees. [KNT]
