Police Destroy Cannabis Crop in Baramulla’s Wagoora, Accused Arrested

Baramulla KNT : Jammu and Kashmir Police, acting on a credible input, uncovered a case of illicit cannabis cultivation in Wagoora area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday.

Police said an individual identified as Habibullah Ganie, son of Abdul Salam Ganie, a resident of Wagoora, was found cultivating cannabis plants in the yard of his house. Acting swiftly, a joint team of police, Excise, Revenue, and Agriculture Department officials reached the spot and confirmed the plantation. The cannabis crop was destroyed on site.

A case under FIR No. 76/2025 U/S 8/20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Police Station Kreeri. The accused has been arrested and further investigation has been launched.

Officials said the action was part of the ongoing crackdown against narcotics in Baramulla, where police and civil authorities have intensified efforts to curb the cultivation and trafficking of drugs.

Locals expressed shock at the discovery and welcomed the swift action. “This incident is a wake-up call. The future of our youth must be protected from drugs,” a community elder said.

Police have urged the public to immediately report any suspicious activities related to drug cultivation or trade to help stamp out the menace. [KNT]
