Tarigami Voices Concern Over Harassment of Students and Labourers Across India

Srinagar ,KNT: CPI(M) leader and MLA Kulgam M Y Tarigami on Tuesday expressed serious concern over what he described as an atmosphere of harassment allegedly faced by students and labourers working in different parts of the country. He said the situation has generated fear among the younger generation pursuing education away from home and stressed that students should not be dragged into situations that undermine their sense of security.

Tarigami said the prevailing atmosphere is not conducive for a healthy environment, especially when young people require stability and confidence to continue their studies and work. He stated that while strict action must be taken against those responsible for heinous militant activities, it is equally important to ensure that innocent citizens do not feel humiliated or distressed.

He cautioned that pushing innocent people to the wall has historically yielded no positive outcomes and argued that desperation is always counterproductive. According to him, past conflict situations have shown that indiscriminate measures only deepen alienation rather than resolving issues.

The CPI(M) leader urged the government to prioritise efforts aimed at winning the trust of the people, particularly the youth. He said building confidence is essential to maintain social harmony and prevent unnecessary fear among ordinary citizens.

Tarigami further said there should be no alleged indiscriminate arrests in the wake of the Delhi incident. He stressed that law enforcement agencies must ensure that innocent students, labourers and other citizens are not subjected to suspicion or intimidation. [KNT]
