Sopore Police intensify anti-drug crackdown, SSP Iftikhar Talib issues stern warning
Srinagar, KNT: Police in Sopore have intensified their crackdown against drug trafficking networks, registering multiple cases and arresting several alleged peddlers as part of a sustained anti-drug drive in north Kashmir.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Police District Sopore, Iftikhar Talib, said that during a focused five-day operation, Sopore Police registered five separate cases related to drug trafficking and arrested six alleged drug peddlers. A substantial quantity of illicit narcotic substances was also seized during these coordinated actions.
Speaking to the news agency Kashmir News Trust correspondent, the SSP said the ongoing drive is part of a long-term anti-drug campaign that was launched in 2025 and will continue without interruption throughout 2026.
“The aim is to completely dismantle drug trafficking networks operating in Sopore. This is not a one-time action but a sustained campaign,” SSP Talib said.
Issuing a stern warning to those involved in the illegal trade, the senior police officer said there would be zero tolerance for drug peddling in the area.
“Those involved in drug peddling must immediately abandon this illegal activity or leave Sopore altogether. There will be no leniency, and strict legal action will be taken against every offender,” he said.
SSP Talib said Sopore Police are also strengthening intelligence gathering and community coordination to curb the menace of drugs, which he described as a serious threat to society, particularly the youth.
He said the intensified crackdown will continue in the coming weeks, with special focus on habitual offenders and organised networks involved in the narcotics trade.[KNT]
