Ladakh MP Haneefa Jan Assures Safety of Students and Residents in Iran
Ladakh, KNT: Amid growing concern in Ladakh over the evolving situation in Iran, Member of Parliament from Ladakh Mohmad Haneefa Jan on Monday assured that the safety of Ladakhi students and residents currently staying in the country is being closely monitored.
Responding to anxiety among families across Ladakh, Haneefa Jan said he is in constant coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Tehran. He said he has spoken with officials at the Embassy on multiple occasions and that developments in Iran are under continuous review.
According to information shared by the Ministry of External Affairs, there is no immediate threat to Indian nationals in Iran at present. The Government of India, he said, has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of all Indians abroad, including students and residents from Ladakh.
The MP urged Ladakhi students and other inhabitants staying in Iran to ensure that their contact details are registered with the Indian Embassy and to remain in regular communication with embassy officials to enable a swift response in case of any emergency.
Haneefa Jan said he has been receiving frequent calls from concerned families, particularly from Kargil, Leh, and other parts of Ladakh, following reports of protests and security operations in certain provinces of Iran. However, he said Indian authorities have conveyed that there has been no escalation posing a direct risk to Indian nationals so far.
He said the assurances from the Centre and the Embassy have brought some relief to families in the region, which shares long-standing cultural and educational ties with Iran, and where a significant number of students pursue higher education.[KNT]
