IGP Kashmir says elaborate arrangements ensure peaceful Republic Day

Srinagar,  KNT: Inspector General of Police Kashmir, V K Birdi, on Friday said that elaborate and multi-layered security arrangements have been put in place across the Kashmir Valley ahead of Republic Day celebrations scheduled for January 26.

The IGP said Republic Day functions will be organised across the entire Kashmir zone, with main ceremonies being held in different districts where chief guests will receive the salute.

“As you know, the Republic Day event will be held across the entire Kashmir zone. Main functions will take place in different districts where chief guests will receive the salute,” the IGP said.

He said the visit to the Balidan Stambh was aimed at paying homage to martyrs and remembering their sacrifices. “It is an important occasion to remember and honour our martyrs. After this, the main Republic Day function will be held at Bakshi Stadium, where police personnel, school children and members of the public will participate in the parade,” he said.

Responding to a query on security arrangements, IGP Birdi said a robust and multi-layered security grid has been put in place, particularly in Srinagar city. “There are multi-layered security arrangements across the Valley, especially in Srinagar. The security wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with paramilitary forces, has further tightened the security grid to ensure peaceful celebrations,” he said.

He expressed confidence that the arrangements put in place would ensure smooth, peaceful and incident-free Republic Day celebrations across Kashmir. [KNT]
