Handwara Police rescue elderly woman from snowbound village

Handwara, KNT: Handwara Police on Tuesday rescued an elderly woman from the snowbound village of Rakh Shehlal Harni Pura and safely shifted her to a hospital amid heavy snowfall in the area, officials said.

According to officials, the woman was stranded due to blocked roads and deep snow accumulation, making vehicular movement impossible. Acting promptly on information received, a police team reached the village on foot and carried out the rescue operation under difficult weather conditions.

Officials said the elderly woman was carefully evacuated and transported through snow-covered terrain before being shifted to a hospital for medical attention. Her condition was stated to be stable.

Police said continuous snowfall had cut off several remote habitations in the Handwara area, posing serious challenges for access to healthcare, particularly for elderly people and patients requiring urgent medical assistance.

The timely intervention by Handwara Police was appreciated by locals, who said such efforts have provided relief to residents of snowbound areas during the ongoing winter conditions.
