Srinagar–Jammu highway remained partially open, traffic allowed up to Ramban only
Srinagar,KNT: Traffic on the Srinagar–Jammu National Highway was partially regulated on Tuesday, with vehicular movement allowed only from Jammu up to Ramban, while the stretch beyond Ramban towards Banihal and Srinagar remained closed due to snowfall, officials said.
Traffic authorities said movement was restricted as a precautionary measure after snowfall intensified in the Banihal sector, making road conditions unsafe. An advisory was issued asking commuters not to proceed beyond Ramban until further notice.
A traffic official said snowfall has been continuing in the Banihal area, resulting in slippery conditions and reduced visibility on the highway. He said no vehicle has been reported stranded on the route so far and the situation remains under control.
Officials said the highway status will be reviewed periodically and traffic beyond Ramban will be restored only after weather conditions improve and road safety is ensured.
Meanwhile, snowfall has been reported across the Kashmir Valley and parts of the Jammu region, particularly in the Pir Panjal range and the Chenab Valley. Light snowfall was also reported in Srinagar, officials added.
Authorities have advised commuters to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel and strictly follow official traffic advisories during the prevailing weather conditions. [KNT]
