LMVs Allowed on Jammu–Srinagar Highway, Mughal Road Open for LMVs with Time Restrictions, Kishtwar–Anantnag Road Closed
Srinagar, KNT: Traffic Police Headquarters Jammu and Kashmir on Friday issued a detailed traffic advisory for March 14, stating that vehicular movement on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) will remain subject to fair weather and improved road conditions.
Officials said traffic movement on the highway was slow between Nashri and the NAVYUG tunnel towards Marog and Kishtwari Pather due to slippery road conditions.
Passenger light motor vehicles have been advised to prefer travel on the Jammu–Srinagar highway during daytime as shooting stones, landslides and ongoing road construction between Ramban and Banihal may cause inconvenience to commuters.
Authorities urged drivers to follow lane discipline, warning that overtaking and wrong lane driving could lead to congestion on the highway.
According to the advisory, subject to fair weather and better road conditions, LMVs including passenger vehicles, private cars and passenger carriers will be allowed to travel on NH-44 in both directions between Jammu and Srinagar.
Traffic Control Units (TCU) in Jammu and Srinagar will coordinate traffic regulation based on real-time road conditions.
Security forces’ convoy movement will also be permitted from both sides on the highway depending on weather conditions and road status, officials said.
Meanwhile, the Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag road remains closed for vehicular movement due to heavy snow accumulation.
Officials said the Srinagar–Sonamarg–Gumri road had remained closed for the past four days due to snowfall and adverse weather conditions.
Subject to improvement in weather and road clearance, LMVs equipped with anti-skid chains may be allowed to ply from Srinagar towards Kargil on the Srinagar–Sonamarg–Gumri road.
Traffic officials said vehicles will be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil only after clearance from road maintenance agencies in view of the risk of avalanches along the Zojila axis.
Vehicles without anti-skid chains will not be permitted to travel on the route, while motorcyclists have been advised not to undertake travel on the stretch.
Authorities also said no vehicle will be allowed to move after cut-off timings from the road maintenance agencies.
On the Mughal Road, officials said only LMVs will be allowed to ply between Poonch and Shopian in both directions subject to weather conditions and road clearance by the Border Roads Organisation and the General Reserve Engineer Force.
Traffic movement on the route will remain restricted between 1100 hours and 1500 hours from Herpora in Shopian towards Poonch.
Officials added that traffic authorities in Jammu and Srinagar will keep commuters informed about the cut-off timings and road status.
Authorities have advised commuters to undertake travel only after confirming road conditions with traffic control units.
Traffic Control Unit contact numbers have also been issued for Jammu, Srinagar, Udhampur, Kishtwar and Kargil to assist travellers with real-time updates. [KNT]
