Anti-Drug Crackdown in Budgam: Multiple Cases Filed, Illegal Poppy Crops Uprooted

Budgam, KNT: Budgam Police have registered five FIRs under the NDPS Act and destroyed illicit poppy cultivation at multiple locations across the district during a series of coordinated operations, officials said on Sunday.

Acting on specific inputs, a police team from Police Station Charar-i-Sharief conducted an operation at Alamdar Colony Phase-II in Charar-i-Sharief, where poppy plants were found cultivated in an orchard belonging to Mohd Amin Baba Akhoon S/o Gh. Mohd Baba Akhoon. The crop was destroyed on the spot, and FIR No. 30/2026 under Section 8/18 of the NDPS Act was registered.

In separate operations, teams from Police Station Khansahib destroyed illegal poppy cultivation at Khasipora and Dooru. FIR No. 71/2026 was registered against Mushtaq Ahmad Mir S/o Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Mir R/o Khasipora, while FIR No. 75/2026 was registered against Ghulam Qadir Bhat S/o Mohammad Kamal Bhat R/o Kalshipora.

A police team from Police Station Budgam also destroyed illicit poppy cultivation at Ichgam, leading to the registration of FIR No. 99/2026 under Section 8/18 of the NDPS Act.

Similarly, police from Police Station Chadoora carried out an operation in Wagam, where poppy cultivation in orchards belonging to Ghulam Ahmad Rather S/o Late Abdul Kareem Rather was destroyed, and FIR No. 48/2026 under Section 8/18 of the NDPS Act was registered.

Officials said all legal formalities, including seizure, sampling, and preparation of destruction memos, were completed on the spot in the presence of Revenue and Excise officials along with the Executive Magistrate. [KNT]
