LG Manoj Sinha Vows Ruthless Action Against Drug Networks, Smugglers in J&K
Kishtwar, KNT: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday said the administration was targeting every link in the drug trade network and vowed strict action against smugglers, peddlers and those financing the illegal narcotics trade.
Addressing a public rally in Kishtwar as part of the ongoing Drug-Free Jammu and Kashmir Campaign, the Lieutenant Governor said authorities were committed to dismantling drug networks operating across the Union Territory.
“We are breaking the chain of the drug trade at every single link. Whether it is cross-border smugglers, peddlers or financiers of the drug trade, there is no safe haven. Our agencies are hunting down those involved and permanently dismantling their networks,” Sinha said.
The Lieutenant Governor said the campaign has so far covered 19 districts of Jammu and Kashmir and has witnessed participation from people belonging to different sections of society.
“Our goal is to foster a grassroots resistance against drug abuse,” he said.
Sinha said that for the past 56 days he had pursued a mission focused on eliminating drug smuggling and narcotics distribution networks from Jammu and Kashmir.
“Those involved in ruining the future of our young generation must understand that there will be no mercy,” he said.
At the same time, the Lieutenant Governor emphasized that individuals battling addiction and seeking rehabilitation would continue to receive government support, assistance and opportunities to reintegrate into society.
“We are ensuring that drug addicts who seek a path to recovery are provided all possible assistance and brought back to the mainstream with compassion and dignity,” he said.
Describing the campaign as a long-term effort, Sinha said the fight against drugs would require sustained commitment from government agencies, civil society, teachers, religious leaders, Panchayat representatives and local communities.
“Our teachers, Panchayat Mahila Samitis, religious leaders and civil society groups are the torchbearers of this movement. This is a defining moment for the future of our children,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor said the administration was working to equip communities to identify early signs of substance abuse and intervene before addiction takes root, adding that the campaign was aimed at safeguarding future generations across Jammu and Kashmir. [KNT]
