Army Chief Assumes Honorary Colonel Appointment of JAK Rifles, Ladakh Scouts
New Delhi, KNT: Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi has assumed the appointment of Honorary Colonel of the Regiment of Jammu and Kashmir Rifles and Ladakh Scouts Regiment, the Indian Army said on Tuesday.
According to the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI), General Dwivedi had relinquished the appointment of Colonel of the Regiment after assuming the office of Chief of Army Staff, choosing not to hold the honorary position of any regiment during his tenure as Army Chief.
The Army said the decision reflected his commitment to the entire Indian Army while serving as its apex commander.
In a ceremonial event, Lieutenant General M.P. Singh, the present Colonel of the Regiment, formally presented the baton of the Honorary Colonel of the Regiment to General Dwivedi.
The Army described the ceremony as symbolizing General Dwivedi’s enduring association with the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles and Ladakh Scouts Regiments, both of which have a distinguished history of service and gallantry.
The honorary appointment is a ceremonial and regimental responsibility associated with preserving traditions, fostering esprit de corps and maintaining the historic legacy of the regiments.
General Dwivedi has longstanding ties with the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles and Ladakh Scouts, and the Army said the appointment further strengthens his association with the two regiments. [KNT]
