Road Blocked as Drinking Water Crisis Triggers Protest in Pulwama Village

Pulwama, KNT: Residents of Pinglena village in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday staged a protest and blocked a road, alleging that the area has been without drinking water for the past ten days.

The protesting residents said the prolonged disruption in water supply has caused severe hardship, forcing families to depend on alternative sources to meet their daily needs. They urged the authorities to restore the supply without further delay.

Officials of the Jal Shakti Department attributed the crisis to the suspension of work on an ongoing water supply scheme, stating that the project had stalled due to a lack of funds. They also cited a decline in the discharge of the spring feeding the existing supply system, which has further aggravated the shortage.

The officials assured the residents that efforts were underway to resume the stalled works and restore drinking water supply at the earliest.
