Search for Missing Boy Enters Third Day in Gurez

Gurez,  KNT: The search operation to retrieve the body of a 10-year-old boy who drowned in the Kishanganga River in the Tulail area of Gurez entered its third day on Wednesday, with teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) continuing intensive efforts amid strong river currents.

The child had accidentally slipped into the Kishanganga River near Sheikhpora village on Sunday, triggering a massive rescue operation involving SDRF personnel and local volunteers. Despite continuous searches over the past two days, the body has remained untraced.

Officials said SDRF teams resumed the operation early Wednesday, using ropes and other rescue equipment to search different stretches of the fast-flowing river while local residents continued to assist the rescuers.

The missing boy has been identified as Babar Bashir Sheikh, a resident of Sheikhpora, Tulail, in the Gurez area of Bandipora district.

Officials said the operation would continue until the body is recovered. [KNT]
