Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla Calls For Collective Action On World Nature Conservation Day
On World Nature Conservation Day, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has urged every citizen to work together to build a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future. In a social media post, Mr Birla said that nature conservation is not just about saving wildlife; it is about protecting forests, rivers, clean air and natural resources for future generations. He noted that although India has only about 2.4 percent of the world’s land area, the country is home to nearly 8 percent of the world’s biodiversity.
Mr Birla added that India also shelters more than 70 percent of the world’s wild tigers, the largest population of Asian elephants, the only wild population of Asiatic lions and the largest population of one-horned rhinoceroses. The Lok Sabha Speaker reminded everyone that protecting nature means protecting one’s own future. He advised all to plant trees, save water, reduce plastic use, and respect wildlife, as every small action matters.
