Aadi Perukku Festival Celebrated With Religious Fervour Across Tamil Nadu

In Tamil Nadu, today is the 18th day in the auspicious month of Aadi. It is called Aadi Perukku and is devoted to the female deity Amman. The festival involves prayers on river banks for an increase in water, the basis for agriculture.

This is also a day when unmarried women pray to find a suitable life partner, married women pray for marital bliss and the longevity of their husbands, and they also offer a symbolic baby shower to the deity. The festival is celebrated with religious fervour on the banks of the River Cauvery in Tiruchi and Dharmapuri, as well as near water bodies across the state.
