Road Safety Crackdown on Doodhpathri Route: 15 Vehicle RCs, Five Driving Licences Face Suspension
Budgam, KNT: The Regional Transport Department on Friday intensified its crackdown on traffic violations along the Doodhpathri tourist route in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, recommending the suspension of 15 registration certificates (RCs) of commercial vehicles and five driving licences for serious violations of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The enforcement drive was carried out by the Assistant Regional Transport Office (ARTO), Budgam, on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Athar Aamir Khan, with officials focusing on two-wheelers and commercial vehicles operating on roads leading to the tourist destination.
During the operation, the enforcement team detected several commercial vehicles allegedly operating with tampered or non-functional Speed Limiting Devices (SLDs), prompting recommendations for suspension of 15 registration certificates and five driving licences.
Officials also issued 20 on-the-spot challans for violations including riding without helmets, triple riding and operating commercial vehicles without functional speed governors. The penalties are expected to amount to nearly ₹65,000.
As part of the drive, transport officials also inspected dealerships dealing in new and pre-owned vehicles and directed them to ensure strict compliance with statutory requirements before handing over vehicles to buyers.
ARTO Budgam said similar enforcement drives would continue across the district to improve road safety, particularly on routes witnessing increased tourist and vehicular movement. [KNT]
