Baramulla Man Claims ₹2.85 Lakh Siphoned from J&K Bank Account, Seeks Recovery
Srinagar, KNT: A Baramulla resident working in Srinagar has alleged that ₹2,84,930 was fraudulently withdrawn from his Jammu and Kashmir Bank account after his mobile phone suddenly behaved abnormally and switched off, leaving him without access to his banking services.
Reyaz Ahmad Wani, a resident of Baramulla, said the incident came to his notice after his Motorola phone began vibrating unusually before switching off. He later discovered that nearly ₹2.85 lakh had been siphoned from his account maintained at the bank’s Harda Abura branch in Tangmarg.
Wani told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that he approached the bank after discovering the unauthorized transactions but was informed that his account had been frozen and could not be reopened at that stage.
He has since approached the Cyber Police Cell, hoping that the money, which he described as his hard-earned savings, would be recovered.
Wani suspects that his children may inadvertently have clicked on suspicious links while using the phone to play the Free Fire game. However, he said he was not certain whether the gaming activity or any other online interaction had led to the alleged fraud.
The exact method through which the money was withdrawn and the circumstances surrounding the alleged cyber fraud remain unclear. [KNT]
