Fire & Emergency Services gets Rs.20 crore for enhancing infra
Earlier known as the Department of Fire Brigade with limited role, the department was renamed as Fire and Emergency Service and under Smart City Project will get more teeth with an enhanced infrastructure.

Official sources said that the Fire and Emergency Services have not only been restricted to extinguish fire but have vast areas of responsibility including their engagements in natural calamities, disasters and major rescue operations.
“The administration in view of the greater role of the Fire and Emergency Services department and its personnel will further be strengthened and well equipped under the Smart City Project,” he said.
“Under Smart City project, all the fire stations in Jammu district are to be equipped with modern gadgets and rescue infrastructure,” they said, adding that many firefighters have lost their lives due to limited resources.
One of such incidents was also reported on February 12 last year when the firefighters were extinguishing the fire in the saw mill, three of them came under the rubble out of which one had died.
Sources said that the infrastructure is being increased to strengthen the Fire and Emergency Services Department and under the Smart City Project, Rs.20 crore has been approved for the department.
“The fire and emergency service will procure modern equipment on its own. The work of procurement of equipment has also started,” sources said, adding that care will be taken that procurement of equipment will be completed within the stipulated time.
