In 18 months, Jammu to get first multi-featured Tawi River Front
Finally, the wait is over and the work on the much awaited River tawi Front will take off in the second week of January.

The first phase of Tawi River Front between Bikram Chowk to Bhagwati Nagat will be completed in 18 months.
Official sources said, “waiting for many years, finally, the work of beautification of River Suryaputri, locally known as Tawi river is scheduled to start in January.”
The work of Tawi River Front will start on both sides of the river from Bikram Chowk to Bhagwati Nagar, he said, adding that the Odisha based company will execute the work.
“Under Jammu Smart City project, the responsibility of the project has been given to a company from Odisha and almost all the required formalities have been completed,” said an official, adding that the Tawi River Front will surely give impetus to tourism in Jammu.
The plan is to beautify the seven kilometer long Tawi River Front, he revealed.
In the first phase, he said that an area of up to 2.75 km will be covered and under this, a river front will be prepared on both sides from Bhagwati Nagar fourth bridge to Bikram Chowk Bridge.
“Rs.156 crore will be spent on this mega project. The Tawi River Front will be developed on the lines of the Sabarmati River Front of Gujarat, but with different features,” he said, adding that an island will also be formed between the riverfront, to be built on both sides.
Apart from this, religious places, shopping centers, eateries and seating facilities will also be made at the site, adding he said, “cycle track on both sides of the restaurant, park, cycle track and Appu Ghar like Kids Zone will also come up. Along with this, restaurants and coffee shops, flower park, view point will also be other features at the front.”
“All formalities have been completed and it is expected that the work will start by January mid. We are waiting for the letter of intent, which will be issued in days,” said an official, adding that this will be a New Year’s gift to the residents of the city under Smart City.
In the first phase, the front will be ready from Bhagwati Nagar to Bikram Chowk and thereafter the work will be done in other places, he said.
