I&C deptt sets balls rolling for establishing Jammu medicity
The Jammu and Kashmir Government has set the ball rolling for the establishment of medicity in the winter capital Jammu, which go a long way in boosting healthcare system in the region. In December last year Industries and Commerce Department had sanctioned only 100 kanals land of JKI at Miransahib, Jammu for establishing medicity.
“Pertinently, setting up of new medical and higher education institutions in private sector is a part of the new Industrial Policy. The identified will be allotted transparently as per the J&K Industrial Land Allotment Policy,” he added.
As per official sources, Industries and Commerce Department held a meeting in this regard today, which was attended by the top officials of the department. It is learnt that the criteria to be adopted for the allotment of said land and the terms and conditions for setting up top of the line healthcare institution was deliberated in the meeting. Based on the said criteria among others guidelines, the department will be seeking applications from the interested parties.
The land of JKI at Miransahib is ideally located close to the main city and can cater to the medical service requirements of the entire division.
As per sources, Apollo Hospitals in one the key players that would be setting up the multi specialty hospital in Jammu.
Last December, Jammu and Kashmir government signed MoU with Apollo Hospitals for the establishment of a multi-specialty hospital in Jammu. In the first phase, Apollo Hospitals will be setting up a 250-bed hospital. On the occasion the Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd Executive Vice Chairperson, Dr. Preetha Reddy had said that this project will also generate more than 1,000 direct employment opportunities. Apart from this, it will also become the training centre not only for doctors, but also for the nurses, paramedics, technicians, and allied healthcare workers.
At the time Lt Governor Manoj Sinha termed the MoU another major milestone for Jammu and Kashmir. He had said that besides providing the best healthcare facilities, the venture will bring huge direct and indirect employment opportunities for the locals, adding that more healthcare projects and MoUs are in the pipeline to ensure that the best healthcare is within the reach of every citizen of the union territory.
In Kashmir- a similar medicity will be built at 368 kanal 16 marla land of Industries and Commerce Department at Sempora in Pampore.
