Sensex rises 871 points, Nifty surges 267 points to trade at 17,890

The Sensex and the Nifty today climbed around one and half percent in the afternoon trade. Both indices gained in sync with gains in the global share markets.

The Sensex was trading above the 60,000 mark while the Nifty was trading near 17,900 level.

The Sensex rose 871 points, or 1.47 percent, to trade at 60,012. The Nifty also surged 267 points, or 1.52 percent, to trade at 17,890.

In the forex market, the rupee also appreciated four paise to trade at 79 rupees and 73 paise against the US dollar in afternoon deals.
